The Artists and Craftsmen of St. Colman's Cathedral

THE DIVERSE LABOUR FORCE

The masonry, sculpture, stained glass and ornamentation of the Cathedral evoke general admiration and prompt tribute to the diverse labour force that after many years of dedicated work made the pencilled outlines of architects' plans an enduring aesthetic reality.

The building contractors employed in the vast project quarrymen, car men, labourers, limestone and bath stone sawyers, nailers, carpenters, smiths, plumbers, tradesmen's helpers and the stone masons (many who lived and worked in Cobh) painstakingly fashioned and laid the granite and limestone ashlars used in the erection of an edifice of transcending beauty.
